About
Alexander Mattingley-Scott is an artist working with painting, abstraction, color, and atmosphere.
My work explores the space between observation and imagination. Drawing inspiration from landscapes, memory, and the human figure, I create paintings that move between abstraction and representation. Through layered surfaces, shifting forms, and a restrained use of narrative, I aim to evoke a sense of depth, ambiguity, and quiet contemplation. Rather than depicting specific places or stories, my paintings invite viewers to project their own experiences and interpretations onto the work. I am interested in moments where the familiar becomes uncertain, and where atmosphere and emotion take precedence over description.
